Bridges

What is a bridge?

A bridge is one of several ways that a missing tooth can be replaced.

A bridge can made by placing crowns at either side of a space, and then these two crowns are joined together by placing a false tooth or teeth into the space between them. Another option is an adhesive bridge, the false tooth has wings that are bonded to the back of your natural supporting teeth beside the space.

Each bridge is custom designed for you, is made by a highly skilled dental technician in a dental laboratory and is then cemented into place by your dentist using special dental adhesives, the bridge cannot be removed.

Can I always have a bridge to replace missing teeth?

Bridges are only possible if you have enough strong teeth with good bone support. Your dentist will be able to advise you if a bridge is a suitable treatment for you.

How do I look after my bridge?

You need to clean your bridge every day, to prevent problems such as tooth decay, bad breathe or gum disease. You also need to clean under the false tooth every day. Your dentist or dental hygienist will advise you on the best way to clean around your bridge. This will help to ensure that your bridge will provide you with many years service.
